Caffeine Kid Wins at UK Barista Championship 2013
| Award Winning Coffee at Roath Market |
| Roath Market regular stallholder Will Corby has placed in the Top 3 of Baristas at the UK Barista Championship 2013. He also took home awards for Best Signature Drink and Best Espresso. The Caffeine Kid Last week’s Farmers Market in Roath saw two new additions to the stalls, trophies for Best Signature Drink and Best Espresso following The Caffeine Kid’s success at Heat 3 of the UK Barista Championships 2013. Will Corby, the man behind The Caffeine Kid, was also named one of the top 3 baristas in that heat following his successes in the other rounds. This is once again proof of the excellence of the coffee which he serves up. Corby was named Barista Champion of the North and Midlands in 2010 and London and the South East in 2011 and has now brought that success to both Roath and Riverside Market’s every weekend. Will Corby has become a regular stallholder at Roath Markets on Saturdays and Riverside Markets on Sundays, using his time there to perfect the winning drinks that he served at last week’s championships. He is currently still serving up the award winning coffee at markets, using the same coffee beans and technique which helped secure his victory. Market Collaboration The Caffeine Kid is not the only market stallholder at Roath who is part of this award; Will Corby claims that his victory would not have been possible without fellow stallholder Avril Lord. Avril who runs Avril’s Country Kitchen provided Corby with a hand-made preserve which he used to add to the flavour of his award winning signature drink. Avril’s Country Kitchen can also be found at Roath and Riverside markets selling a wide range of home-made preserves, all using locally sourced and home grown produce. Roath Farmer’s Market, part of RCMA Farmers Markets, is quickly becoming a hub of activity for those interested in food in Cardiff, with many stallholders creating partnerships to create the best possible produce they can. Running every Saturday from 9.30am – 1pm it is the perfect place to pick up some delicious weekend treats. |

RCMA IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT SOCIAL ENTERPRISE! BY SUPPORTING OUR FARMERS MARKETS YOU ARE SUPPORTING LOCAL PRODUCERS,MAINTAINING ACCESS TO FRESH LOCAL FOOD AND HELPING PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT.
Riverside Community Market Association (RCMA) now runs three weekl farmers markets in Cardiff. RCMA also aims to improve knowledge about, and access to, a fresh healthy diet and reduce the level of ‘food poverty’ in South Riverside and adjacent areas of Cardiff. For example, the award-winning RCMA Community Allotment attracts up to twenty local residents per week to learn how to grown their own food and enjoy the social and recreational benefits of gardening. In addition the RCMA Community Food Coordinator delivers a wide-ranging programme of food and nutrition workshops in the local community and has set up the Taffside Food and Health Network. RCMA recently launched a Market Garden project which will be a social enterprise growing organic produce to sell locally, and delivering training activities in sustainable living and intensive horticulture.

Facebook: Cardiff Farmers Market Twitter @RCMAmarkets 'PUTTING OUR BEST FOOD FORWARD!' RCMA stands for Riverside Community Market Association. We are a Cardiff based non-profit Social Enterprise, and we believe that it is good for health, for the environment and for the local economy if everyone has access to delicious, fresh, locally produced food - food that doesn't 'cost the earth'! Items for sale at RCMA’s farmers’ markets include: bread, jam, cakes, cheese, vegetables, fruits, eggs, biscuits, pork, beef, lamb, goat, game, fish, chicken, duck, plants, vegetarian burgers, crepes, scotch eggs, meat pies and pasties, smoked fish, fruit and fruit juice, Asian ready meals, middle eastern ready meals, Welsh ready meals, vegetarian ready meals, jams, chutneys, pate, crepes, olives, cider, beer, charcuterie, wild mushrooms.
At our four farmers markets in Cardiff you can get the
tastiest, freshest, healthiest food available anywhere - without it 'costing the
earth'!
ALL OF OUR STALLHOLDERS RAISE, GROW OR MAKE WHAT THEY SELL!
They are dedicated to producing the very best food for you.
(Many are Wales True Taste Award winners)
Some of our farmers are certified organic - all use
sustainable and humane production methods. All other items are made with fresh,
local ingredients.
This is the 'unique selling point' of RCMA's farmers'
markets - and why so many loyal customers come back to us week after week.
(We do allow a couple of guest stalls outside of this
criteria because they are so popular, such as the olive stall (who make all
their own marinades at their base in Maesteg) and the ‘Flying Fishmonger’ seafood
stall - who only buys line-caught fish and sustainably produced seafood.
We have regular special events at our markets, such as cooking demonstrations and activities for kids. Sign up for our newsletter to be kept in touch!
We have
had some good public recognition for our work. In 2010
and 2009 RCMA won gold at the Wales True Taste Awards, and scooped
Social
Enterprise of The Year at the 2010 South Wales Business Awards! RCMA was shortlisted for the Radio 4
Food and Farming Awards in 2009 for the third time (I think this is a
record!),
and we previously won three Welsh awards for our outreach and education
work:
Diversity Awards Wales; and - 'Award for
Food Action Locally’. Awards also garnered
by RCMA for our markets include: Wales True Taste Gold Award (2009) ;
Metro
Wales - "Local Food Hero" award (2007); UKTV Food Heroes Award -
Regional Finalist (2005); Environment Wales '10 of the Best'
award (2003); Community
Enterprise Wales: 'Top 10 Regenerators' award (2003).
R.C.M.A. has
also
received recognition in national media: In December 2008
Riverside Market was rated 4th in the Daily Telegraph’s Top 10 U.K.
Christmas
Markets; In February 2009 Riverside Market featured 5th in The Times’
website list
of the top twelve farmers’ markets in the U.K.; and on the Local Food
Advisor
website we are listed as one of the top ten farmers’ markets out of
‘more that
800 markets’ across the UK in 2010!

RCMA is committed to helping create a truly sustainable 'One Planet Wales. Our latest activity is the Riverside Market Garden project - a small-scale intensive horticultural social enterprise that will supply both institutional customers and farmers’ markets in South East Wales. At the same time the project will deliver training and employment in small scale sustainable food production, and a range of outreach and educational opportunities in healthy living and sustainability for school children and young people. The project is located about eight miles from Cardiff.
