Vote for Cardiff Farmers Markets in the Slow Food UK Awards

2023 is the sixth year of the Slow Food in the UK Awards, bringing with it a chance to vote for your favourite baker, market, fishmonger, butcher, cheese-monger, grocer, restaurant and product. It’s a chance to celebrate the true food heroes in our communities who are committed to making good, fair and sustainable food.

If you are unfamiliar with the movement, Slow Food is a global, grassroots organisation, founded in 1989 to counteract the rise of fast life and fast food. It aims to combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us. Since its beginnings, Slow Food has grown into a global movement involving millions of people in over 160 countries.

In Wales, Slow Food Cymru has a simple mission – to champion Good, Clean and Fair Food for all. Its ‘Ark of Taste’ project seeks to preserve ‘Forgotten Foods’ that are in danger of being lost - and a number of Welsh products are already included, such as the Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep, the Pedigree Welsh Pig and Penclawdd Cockles. Through the Chef’s Alliance, Slow Food Cymru also works local chefs to promote sustainable food and local producers, encouraging them to use ingredients from the ‘Ark of Taste’ in their menu creation.

Every year, the Slow Food UK awards highlight the best-loved slow food producers in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. In addition to the public nominations and vote, each nation director chooses their Person of the Year, too. Last year, we were lucky enough to take home the award for Best Market in Wales - you can take a look at all of the Welsh 2022’ winners here.
