Riverside Market every Sunday, 10am-2pm

Roath Real Food Market – The new Cardiff farmers’  market set up by the people responsible for the award winning Riverside Market - has got off to a flying start!

Hundreds of people from all over Cardiff  came to the car park in front of the Mackintosh Sports Club on Keppoch Street in Roath  to check out the new local farmers market -  and the unanimous reaction was one of pleasure, as shoppers filled their cotton and jute shopping bags (plastic bags of all kinds were kept to a minimum) with delicious local food from more than 25 different stalls, all run by the producers themselves.

Roath Market was opened by leader of Cardiff Council and local Councillor Rodney Berman – who welcomed the new opportunity for local people to buy the very freshest and tastiest food and at the same time support sustainable Welsh agriculture and the local economy.  The S4C programme Ffermio showed up to record the proceedings for future broadcast.

As it was St. David’s day, the daffodil stall was naturally very popular -  and a ten-foot tall welsh lady (courtesy of No Fit State Circus) attracted a lot of attention on nearby shopping streets as she handed out flyers to promote the new market.

Wales’ First Minister Rhodri Morgan  -  who has been a long-time shopper at and supporter of the Riverside Market, came at 1pm to wish the Market well and to draw a winning raffle ticket for a superb hamper of local food donated by stallholders.

Roath Real Food Market will now run every Saturday morning from 9.30am to 1pm at the Mackintosh Sports Club. Click here for pictures.
