The 25th Anniversary of Riverside Market

Originally launched in 1998 by a group of local food enthusiasts in a small park in the heart of the Riverside community, our Riverside Farmers Market has grown to become on of the best known farmers' markets in the U.K. It’s widely recognised as one of the key food attractions in the Welsh capital for local residents and visitors alike - and even features in the Lonely Planet guidebook for Wales!

From humble beginnings, the market now takes place every weekend opposite the Principality Stadium, with stalls running along the bank of the River Taff - a perfect location for a true local food market, and the perfect showcase for some of the best food producers in Wales. It supports communities, producers and the people who shop with us, and we’re thrilled that 25 years on, more and more customers are valuing what we offer - fresh, sustainable food bought directly from the people who produced it! The success of Riverside Market has also enable us to branch out into a weekly Saturday market in Roath, and a weekly Friday market in Rhiwbina.

To mark the 25th anniversary, we will be making some special additions to the market on September 10th. Some of the planned activities include:

●      10 - 10:30 - Live music from Cardiff Farmers Market board member Harriet Kennerly

●      10:30 - 11:15 - A sourdough bread demo from regular weekly traders Pettigrew Bakeries

●      11:30 - 12 - Live music from local singer Julie Gordon supported by saxophone player Christine Heath and Riverside Market founder, Steve Garrett

●      12 - 1 - Tutored chocolate tasting with new market trader Vicolei Sei

David Moisan, current chair of RMCA Markets Volunteer Board said:

We want to invite everyone, from long-time supporters to first-time visitors, to join in with our 25th-anniversary festivities. This landmark occasion is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the positive impact that local producers and foodie artisans have had on the city.”

We want your memories!

To celebrate a quarter century of our award-winning market, we want to collect your stories, memories, photographs and even recipes from the last 25 years, and turn them into a commemorative collection that will be free for all to download from our website.

If you have a story, memory, photograph, recipe or anything else you’d like to contribute, please get in touch with us at carol (at) cardifffarmersmarkets (dot) org (dot) uk.
