Golden Road Gin

The gin is named after the historic “Golden Road” trade route across the top of the Preseli Hills near the north coast of Pembrokeshire, where we live. The path dates back some 5,000 years. It is thought to have been used since the neolithic era and the Bronze Age for the transport of copper, bronze and gold between Ireland and the east.

Traders, travellers and drovers of many generations chose the Golden Road to avoid the dense forests and terrain difficulties (and maybe the dangers of bears, wolves and marauding bands of hostile locals) in the river valleys and lowlands, in fact there are some drove ways on Phil and Jennifer’s farm.

“We wanted to create a gin which encapsulates the spirit of adventure and exploration with different taste elements along the way, after all we are all travellers on our own journeys. It was also important that it has uplifting and rewarding profile, something delicious. “

Golden Road was born out of a time of reflection and recalibration. People often say “Life changing events” are the greatest gifts and we experienced this for ourselves in a heart stopping moment for Phil in 2021. Jennifer and I have always been big foodie people, Jen trained as a chef, and I have been passionate about gin for many years. We wanted to craft gin that evokes a feeling of relaxed adventure and refreshing smoothness. It has been so exciting to share our gin with people and to win a Great Taste Award in our first year was fantastic.

A strong sweet lemon citrus on the nose, with gentle aromas of juniper. There is a real journey from the nose to the finish and we enjoyed this. Bay flavours with spice come through on the finish with a gentle sweetness. We found this to be an elegant and delicate gin. A delicious gin fell of nuanced qualities. We liked the medicinal qualities of the botanicals and the finish, which had a pleasant citrus note. Even a few brave people who don’t enjoy gin have tasted it and have really found it delicious which is great to hear. Our aim is for you to try our gin! We hope you enjoy Golden Road very much and that your fireside dreams come true too.
