Andrew Barlow Paintings

My paintings attempt to capture the interaction of the elements and the Welsh landscape, creating a style that combines colour, contrast and movement. They reflect the variety of landscapes (and weather!) Wales has to offer, and depict Glamorganshire, the Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire, Snowdonia and the Welsh borders. Working in oils allows me to build up layers of colour, letting some dry and others blend, helping to create the sense of movement and atmosphere. The paintings are distinctive because the horizon is usually far off, giving the sense of unlimited space, and drawing the viewer in. Atmosphere is the key element, and the colours and contrasts transmit a sense of place that is more than just landscape.
