Farmers market regulars Blaencamel hail from a small family farm near Aberaeron and come to the markets each week with the best in seasonal vegetables. With over 30 years of family vegetable growing experience you can rely on them to know their stuff.
With an acre of greenhouses Blaencamel is able to produce vegetables and salad all year round including cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, broad beans, peas and aubergines. Most recently at markets have appeared the first strawberries of the year, peas and artichokes, well worth getting to the market nice and early as they often sell quickly.
Blaencamel also run a vegbox scheme where you can order a selection of that week’s finest to either be delivered to your home or to be picked up from one of the markets. Now the boxes are even better for the world too as they now use 100% recycled cardboard (and encourage people to return the boxes to them so they can be used again). For more information on the scheme please visit http://blaencamelbox.com/
Blaencamel Farm can be found at Roath Market every Saturday from 9.30am-1pm and Riverside Market every Sunday from 10am – 2pm. They can also be found on twitter @blaencamelbox which is worth following for update on current vegetables for sale.
Another family run business at our farmers’ markets is Seasons Farm Foods. Producing handmade pies and baked treats at their home since 2009 Seasons Farm Foods are truly a business with home at its heart.
Most of the produce used as ingredients their pies and faggots are reared at their small holding or are purchased from fellow farmers market traders. Season Farm foods believe that it is important that customers know the source of their food they are eating and that the best way they can do this is through hand making their foods rather than relying on mass production. An ethos shared by those at Cardiff Farmers Markets.
It is this attention they put into their foods that has surely this year lead them to winning three prizes at The British Pie Awards, Bronze Awards for their Steak and Ale Pie and Minted Lamb with Vegetables Pie and Gold for their Chicken, Ham, and Leek Pie.
Seasons Farm Foods can be found online at http://www.seasonsfarmfoods.co.uk and at Rhiwbina Market every Friday from 10am-1pm at Rhiwbina Market, every Saturday from 11am-5pm at St. Mary Street Market and every Sunday from 10am-2pm at Riverside Market.
