Whether you like them scrambled, poached, boiled or fried, Eggs are a great source of protein and essential vitamins, they are even better though when you know they come from a reputable source.
Roger of Trecastle Eggs only sells free range large hen’s eggs which he carefully selects every morning at his poultry farm and then brings to our markets in Roath on Saturdays and Riverside on Sundays. A few weeks ago he was missed as he was snowed in and couldn’t get to Cardiff however now the weather is getting better this shouldn’t be a problem. Fingers crossed!
Roger also on occasion also sells duck eggs which are a great treat to look out for.
While you are visiting Roger you can also stock up on some Welsh salted butter from Pembrokeshire and a selection of Caws Cenarth cheeses which he also has on his stall.
Trecastle Eggs can be found every Saturday at Roath Market from 9.30am – 1pm and every Sunday at Riverside Market from 10am – 2pm.

Avril’s Country Kitchen have around 20 years of experience making preserves so where better to go to for your jam and chutney needs than Roath and Riverside markets where they can be found every weekend.
Beginning as a family tradition the company started by making preserves for family and friends, it has now however grown to the huge range that is now on offer at the markets. With an estimated 52 different jams, jellies, chutneys, relishes, sauces and mustards ranging from the traditional to the more modern, it is certain that regardless of the season there will be something for everyone’s tastes.
Avril and Jamie source local produce as much as possible for all of their preserves with many of the ingredients coming from their own garden and from the hedgerows of South Monmouthshire. All of their preserves are handmade using traditional techniques and are additive, gluten and lactose free.
A quick note from Avril though, she is currently appealing for people to return their jars so that they can recycle them once you have polished off their contents.
